CUNY LILAC Spring Training

CUNY LILAC (Library Information Literacy Advisory Committee) is excited to announce its CFP for the 2025 Spring Training! Details and submission info below.

(Librarians AND/OR/NOT AI): Generative AI and Library Instruction

Much of the academic conversation about AI has centered on generative AI in student writing. But how will students’ use of AI affect different stages of their research, and how will we respond to that use as we teach research skills?  How can we navigate nuanced discussions with disciplinary faculty and students about the use and exclusion of generative AI in the research process?

We are seeking proposals for 45-minute in-person presentations or workshops. We welcome a diversity of points of view regarding potential benefits and downsides of AI. Presentation topics could include but are not limited to:

  • How AI affects students’ understanding of the research process
  • Using AI to generate topics, questions, and keywords, or to refine searches
  • Ethical considerations of AI use for research
  • When (if ever) are generative AI summaries sources to be cited? What questions do we want students to ask when a generative AI tool does not cite its sources, or cites hallucinated sources?
  • The dialogue with disciplinary faculty about AI, including those who put a blanket prohibition on its use
  • New technological developments (e.g., “reasoning” AI tools that perform multi-step research and synthesis), and the questions they pose for teaching

Submit your proposal via this link. Proposals should be submitted by April 25, 2025 and should include:

  • Presentation title
  • A 200-250 word abstract outlining the proposed presentation
